Kenya Law Participates In the 2014 Legal Aid Week

Kenya Law joined over 7,000 lawyers country wide to mark the 2014 Legal Aid week at the Milimani Law Courts, Nairobi. The event was officially opened by the Hon. Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court Dr. Willy Mutunga, who is also the Chairman of the National Council For Law Reporting (Kenya Law).

In his Address, the Chief Justice stated that a lawyer’s professional responsibility does not cease because of politics or power but is lifelong duty regardless of where the lawyer may be: in private practice, on the bench, in business, in independent commissions, or in a church service. “The fidelity to professional ethics is a permanent duty.” He said.

Members of the Public were taken through Kenya Law’s mandate and were also made aware of the organization’s vision which is to promote the accessibility of Public Legal information towards and enlightened society. The various Kenya Law publications were on display and the new Kenya Law Mobile Application was also available for installation to interested members of the Public.

The five day event is an initiative of the Law Society and it aims at promoting the mandate of the Law Society of Kenya by extending legal literacy and awareness to members of the public. The 2014 Legal Awareness week runs from 27th to 31st October under the theme “Justice Through Sustainable Legal Aid”.
